Yashasvi Jaiswal hammered a 59-ball unbeaten century after Sandeep Sharma claimed a five-fer as Rajasthan Royals beat Mumbai Indians by nine wickets in a rain-affected contest of IPL 2024 played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Monday.
IPL 2024: Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians – HIGHLIGHTS
After Sandeep returned bowling figures of 4-0-18-5, the best so far of the season, Jaiswal found form at last in Rajasthan’s final home game in Jaipur, flaying the MI attack during his 104 not out off 60 balls.
Despite a rain intervention delaying the proceedings, RR did not face much challenge in overhauling a 180-run target set by MI, reaching 183/1 in 18.4 overs.
The contest also witnessed India and RR spinner Yuzvendra Chahal entering history books, clinching his 200th dismissal.
Understandably, RR captain Sanju Samson was a happy man and a little spoilt for choices when it came to credits for the win.
“Credit has to go to all the players,” a smiling Samson said at the post-match presentation. “Started well in the powerplay. In the middle, the left-handers played unbelievably. But the way we came back was where we won the game,” he added.

After RR rocked MI by getting rid of their top-three batters in the space of 19 deliveries, Tilak Varma weathered the storm and slammed three sixes and five fours en route to his 65. He got fine support from Nehal Wadehera (49 from 24 balls) as the duo put on 99 runs from 52 balls for the fifth wicket.
Samson felt the pitch eventually did get better to bat in the second innings.
“Wicket looked a bit dry. But when lights come in, gets colder in the night, it gets better to bat in the second innings,” he said.
Having got off to promising starts, Jaiswal was not able to convert any of his starts so far and had gone without a fifty in seven matches on the trot until this ton.
When asked about Jaiswal registering his hundred to recover from the poor slump in form with the bat, Samson said: “People are professional enough about what to do when they get a break. I don’t think he needs (advice from) anyone. He’s very confident. Was about one game.”
