South Park
South Park is one of the top animated adult comedies. So naturally, an RPG made by the show’s creators and featuring the show’s characteristic animation style would be a hilarious game. Luckily, we have two such games, both featuring the show’s irreverent humor. In both games, you create your own South Park character and explore the town. In The Stick of Truth, you join the boys as they engage in a fantasy live-action role play (LARP). In Fractured But Whole, you join the boys as they create their own pretend superhero team.
Portal 1 & 2
Portal is an awesome puzzle series, and it’s hilarious. Both Portal and Portal 2 are excellent first-person puzzle games where you use a portal gun that allows you to jump from one area to another. You play as a silent protagonist conducting experiments in a futuristic testing center run by a witty sentient robot named GLaDOS. The quips, insults, and one-liners GLaDOS delivers in between tests are what make it not just a great puzzle game, but a hilarious video game.
Conker’s Bad Fur Day
Conker’s Bad Fur Day is one of the funniest Nintendo 64 games. Software developer Rare made some of the best games for the Nintendo 64, including Banjo-Kazooie, Killer Instinct, and Donkey Kong 64. Conker’s Bad Fur Day may feature a similar kid-friendly, animal mascot aesthetic that was popular in the ‘90s, but it is full of adult humor. You play as Conker, a foul-mouthed, hard-drinking squirrel on a quest to save his girlfriend. The game features dark humor, graphic violence, toilet humor, and pop culture references from the time. Conker: Live & Reloaded is a remake of Conker’s Bad Fur Day that is available for Xbox consoles. You can play the original Nintendo 64 version of Conker’s Bad Fur Day in the Rare Replay collection, which is available on Xbox Game Pass Premium. You can also play Conker’s Bad Fur Day using a Nintendo 64 emulator and ROM. Project 64 is a popular Nintendo 64 emulator. Be aware that this may violate copyright laws.
Untitled Goose Game
Untitled Goose Game is a hilarious stealth puzzle game. In Untitled Goose Game, you play as an ordinary, but highly annoying goose. You are given a list of objectives to complete as you sneak around a picturesque English town, stealing items, honking, and being a jerk to all the residents. The game features a simplistic art style and lots of NPCs to mess around with. Whether you are startling them with a well-timed honk, or stealing their items and making them think they are losing their mind. This game is full of hilarious antics.
Monkey Island Series
Monkey Island has been delivering point-and-click comedy for over 30 years. The first game, The Secret of Monkey Island, was released in 1990. You play as the hapless Guybrush Threepwood who wants to become a pirate. These games are full of puns and hilarious dialogue. Currently, there are six games in the series, with the most recent, Return to Monkey Island, being released in 2022 and featuring the same writing team that worked on the first two games.
Borderlands Series
Borderlands is a great action-RPG with a sense of humor. The Borderlands series is known for its first-person shooter, open-world RPG, and loot mechanics. They are also known for their on-the-nose humor. They feature a ton of over-the-top characters, one-liners, and dark humor. While Borderlands 3 may have been more cringy with its constant meme references (most of which were outdated by the time the game released), the rest of the games are more grounded with their own unique brand of dark humor mixed with graphic violence.
Sam & Max Series
Sam & Max is another hilarious point & click adventure game. The Sam & Max series is based on a comic book by Steve Purcell. Sam & Max: Hit the Road was the first game to gain critical success. It is a point-and-click buddy-cop adventure, featuring two anthropomorphic private eye detectives. Sam is a tall, laid-back dog character who is highly intelligent and passionate about his work. Max is a manic, rabbit-like creature that revels in violence and chaos. The perfect foil to Sam’s more serious nature. The games feature plenty of surreal humor and back-and-forth banter.
Saints Row: The Third
Saints Row: The Third is a wacky open-world crime game. The Grand Theft Auto series may be the king of the open-world crime genre, which is known for its own brand of satirical humor. The Saints Row series started off as a basic clone of GTA. By the time the third in the series came out, they opted more for an over-the-top, zany style of humor, rather than on-the-nose cultural parody seen in GTA. The game features lots of hilarious banter, immature humor, cartoonish ragdoll physics, and unique weapons. If the crude humor gets to be too much for you, you can also make your own unscripted comedy through the random mayhem you cause.
Thank Goodness You’re Here
Thank Goodness You’re Here is a hilarious slapstick comedy. The game is set in a fictional English town of Barnsworth in the 80s. You play as a traveling salesman waiting to meet the mayor. There’s not much to the game other than wandering around the town and meeting all the weird residents, and helping them with the crazy situations they find themselves in. The game features top-notch voice acting and Monty Python-style humor. It’s a world that’s easy to get lost in, that is full of hilarious situations.
High on Life
High on Life is a hilariously irreverent first-person shooter. High on Life is a first-person that puts inappropriate humor first and foremost. In this game, you take your revenge on an extraterrestrial drug cartel. Aiding you in your quest are the Gatlians, which are your foul-mouthed arsenal of animated guns. The crude humor starts right when the game starts and doesn’t let up throughout the entire campaign.
