Samit Dravid, the son of Team India head coach Rahul Dravid, looks to be following in the footsteps of his father, who is regarded as one of the greatest Test batters in history. Samit has already started building his career in age-group cricket. The teenager is currently representing Karnataka State Cricket Association XI in a two-day friendly match against English countryside Lancashire. The match is underway at the Alur KSCA Stadium in Bengaluru where Lancashire and their fellow English club Sussex have set up pre-season camps for the upcoming edition of the County Championship.
On Day 1 of the ongoing practice match against Lancashire, Samit Dravid perfectly executed a square cut that would remind fans of his father. The junior Dravid demonstrated exceptional footwork while facing a short delivery off opposition spinner Josh Boyden. Samit followed the line of the ball and took a few steps back to give himself room. He then rolled his wrists to find a gap through the point as the ball comfortably cleared the boundary.

Samit Dravid, who came in to bat at number five, failed to survive long. The right-handed batter managed only 25 runs before losing his wicket to Lancashire spinner Jack Morley. Samit’s 45-ball innings consisted of two boundaries. Despite his poor show with the bat, Karnataka was able to produce 356 runs in the first innings.
Smaran Ravi was the leading scorer for the home team. The middle-order batter registered 111 runs off 155 balls and his centurion knock comprised 10 fours and 2 sixes. Among the other Karnataka players, Hardik Raj made a crucial contribution. The spin-bowling all-rounder scored 67 runs at a 90-plus strike rate.
As far as Samit Dravid’s emerging career is concerned, the youngster first hit the headlines during the Cooch Behar Trophy earlier in January. Samit racked up 362 runs in his 8 appearances for Karnataka in the U-19 tournament. He also showed his class with the ball. Samit picked a total of 16 wickets at a bowling average of 19.
