'If South Africa Get Past That Semifinal, They're Going to Win the Cup,' Says Brag Hogg Ahead of ICC T20WC Semis
Ahead of the semis, Australian legend Hogg claimed that South Africa, who have a habit of choking in the semifinals of grand tournaments, could go on to win the title if they manage to overcome Afghanistan in their final-four encounter.

The ICC T20 World Cup in the Caribbean is heading towards the business end of the tournament with the semifinal slots booked by India, South Africa, England and Afghanistan.

India are slated to take on holders England, while surprise entrants Afghanistan will take on South Africa in their respective final-four fixtures.

Ahead of the semis, Australian legend Brad Hogg claimed that South Africa, who have a habit of choking in the semifinals of grand tournaments, could go onto win the title if they manage to overcome Afghanistan in their encounter.

“For me, if they get past that semifinal right, South Africa is going to win the final this year,” Hogg stated.

“I just think they have got the team balanced and have the aggression as well,” he explained.

Hogg also opined that the Proteas have a fine leader in Aiden Markram, who can help the well-balanced side.

“I really like Markram as the captain. He is correct and very composed. And I also think, they are going to win as a very well-composed team, not panicking and just setting the right conditions,” he added.

Hogg added that he also rates opener Reeza Hendricks highly and they have the incredible Heinrich Klaasen in the middle to stabilise the innings.

“They are just spawning from here. It’s amazing. I regard Hendricks as well, I really like him as a player. And then you’ve got to build a wall, they can build a nice one with especially Klassen. I expect him to do really well against Afghanistan and get to the finals,” said Hogg.

He also lauded the spin unit comprising Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi

“I think it is going to be South Africa and they have got a really strong squad, good spin with Shamsi and Maharaj,” the legendary spinner continued.

He concluded by stating that it was now just a matter of South Africa going out onto the field and playing with confidence.

“I think they’ll have to go out there and play it out again instead and just have that confidence to go with the final side,” he signed off.
