A rejection email is going viral on Reddit for its needlessly rude and aggressive tone. The long email was sent by US-based IT company Elite Software Automation to an applicant who had given a test for the post of Frontend Software Engineer. Instead of simply informing the candidate that they are not getting hired, the email uses more than 400 words of aggressive rebuking. A screenshot of this mail was shared on sub-Reddit on Thursday, January 4. So far it has over 18,000 upvotes and over 3,800 comments with people criticising the company for the tasteless mail.
The mail starts by mentioning that the candidate’s application was declined as they “scored below the pass score.” The mail then goes on to state that the candidate will be blacklisted permanently if they try to apply for the same position before the end of next year or if they write to the company for a second chance.

The mail mentions that the company does not accept any excuses. “If you were feeling unwell on the day of the test, or if you were rushing, or if your internet went out, or whatever other excuse you may have, it does not matter.”
The mail asks the rejected candidates to toughen up and suggests, “If you are upset at this email, we have to inform you that life is hard and part of any professional or personal development is dealing with rejection and finding ways to improve.”
It further goes on to read, “You were provided an opportunity to show your abilities in a blind and fair test that is the same for all candidates and that is focused on nothing but skills and abilities. You have failed to score high enough at this test. Instead of blaming us, you should examine what you can do to improve those abilities and skills. Maybe you could use this self-reflection to improve and make your life better.”
Commenting on Elite Software Automation’s haughty tone, a Reddit user wrote, “Jesus Christ, I would make sure to apply again just to make sure I GET blacklisted by this excuse of a company.”
People also noted that the company has a poorly made website. One person observed, “Their company website literally cannot maintain a stable frame rate on my phone. That’s one hell of a rejection letter to be sent from a company who can’t even write a functioning web page.”
