As reported by the Times of India, the boy has been identified as Jaikumar Jani who is a final-year BA student. The authorities have charged him with criminal trespass for his actions. Jai informed the police that he was a Dhoni fan and wanted to meet him. Thus, he jumped the barricades and ran towards the batter.

“Jai and his brother Parth travelled from Bhavnagar to watch the match. During a DRS break, Jai first jumped the metal barricades near the black screen and ran towards the pitch. He was quickly apprehended and taken to Chandkheda police station,” Assistant Commissioner of Police DV Rana was quoted as saying.

“In the preliminary investigation, we found that he had no other intentions. A case has been registered against him for trespassing and illegal entry during the match,” he added.

This was the second such incident at the Narendra Modi Stadium in the past six months. Last year during the World Cup final, an Australian national breached the security and entered the field to hug Virat Kohli.

On Friday, Dhoni had spotted the fan rushing towards him and made a fake attempt to run away from but he stopped midway. The boy then bowed down to Dhoni but the latter picked him up and hugged him before he was taken out of the field by the security officials.
