Chinmayi Causes Uproar After She Validates Daughter's Refusal to Hug Dad: 'Are Fathers Not Allowed To...'
Singer Chinmayi Sripada sparked a massive debate on social media after she said her husband was okay after their daughter refused to hug him.

Singer Chinmayi Sripada had the internet divided after she shared an incident involving her daughter and husband. The singer revealed that her husband Rahul Ravindran asked their two year-old daughter for a hug. When she refused it, Rahul did not force her to hug him. Instead, he respected her decision. She shared the incident to spread awareness about consent among children. Many social media users lauded her.

“She is absolutely right in teaching them the importance of consent early on. There should be no physical touch with any kids without their consent. That’s what would ensure their safety from prey,” a social media user said. However, a massive part of the social media was also not on board with her approach towards parenting.

A social media user even questioned her if she would be okay if her child/children would be okay if they don’t want to hug her. “Well, if this is the case for a 2-year-old girl child or a boy child, if the mother comes to hug him, would you say the same thing?” the user asked. Chinmayi said she would accept the child’s decision.

“If MY daughter does not want to be hugged by me, her mother, who carried her and her twin brother, and birthed her at ANY given point in time – I’ll let her be until she is ready for a hug,” she said.

“I am not going to force her to hug me because I want it. The same applies to my son. If you don’t get it you do NOT understand consent. And you never will and will keep forcing people and kids to do what YOU want them to do when YOU want it. Across languages the concept of consent is lost on many. No wonder fragile egos cant take no for answer,” she added.

Another social media user jumped in to add, “My mom would kick me if I ask her whether she took consent before bathing me as a kid.” Chinmayi replied, “Physical abuse by your parent as a response to a question – No wonder the concept of consent is lost on you. Sorry you got beaten as a kid. You deserved better.”

A social media user also said, “I get the consent stuff and all that but telling a father not to hug a 2 year old child without consent is disgusting! It’s ok if the child is grown up but at the tender age of 2? Aren’t fathers not allowed to cuddle their little children? Ridiculous.”

The singer replied, “With all due respect. Thats not what I said. But if you had brains you would have understood anyway. No point in explaining to you.”

However, the discussion did not end there. Disappointinly, several social media user went ahead and trolled her instead of having a healthy discussion. “You have failed as a human being if your children feel unsafe from you, anyways they are too innocent and naive to start to think like that. Children are of course taught to be wary of strangers, but to be wary from their own parents means you have failed as a human being,” a social media user said.

The singer replied, “My husband told her he respects her autonomy. Any sane man would understand that unfortunately there are more insane men here than anything. And yes I can see how your child’s consent will. Be constantly violated the way you speak.”

The user told Chinmayi, “I can only say people like you distrust humans too much and perhaps you should look into yourselves before blaming others. Not everyone is evil and as I can see, it’s like blowing horns in front of a lazy bull.”

She then shared a note in which she highlighted the trolling she is often subjected to social media abuse. “Of all things to make an issue when I said ‘My Daughter’ whereas nobody with common sense should have an issue when a parent says ‘My’. But – I am expecting common sense from a lot whose standard response to anything that they don’t like from a woman is Shut Up Lanja or say my Husband is Gay. Before kids the same lot made comments on infertility- now they say IVF Surrogacy and question who the father actually is. May everyone know and understand what sort of people abound in society here,” Chinmayi said.

She gave birth to twins, a son and a daughter, on June 18, 2022.
