Lucknow: This Ramzan will be the hottest in last three decades with temperatures soaring above 40 degrees and the fasting times will also be longer. The Met Department has predicted that monsoon may arrive in Lucknow only after June 18, which means there will no respite from heat for the entire month of Ramzan.

Speaking to News18, noted Sunni cleric and Imam of Aishbagh Eidgah, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Faranagi Mahali said, “As the Islamic Hijri calendar is based on lunar calculations, it is 10 days short of the solar year. As per the English calendar, Ramzan this year is the exact repetition of the Ramzan of 1982.”

Mahali also said fasting days will be longer by 5-8 minutes compared to previous years. “Time duration between sehri and iftar on the first day of Ramzan will be 15 hours 8 minutes and on the last day, 15 hours 15 minutes compared to last year when fasting duration on the first and last days were of 15 hours 3 minutes and 15 hours 8 minutes respectively,” added Maulana Khalid Rasheed.

Doctors say it will not be an easy task for those fasting to stay without water when the temperature is above 40 degrees. “The aim should be to stay hydrated and to have the right food to give you energy for the entire day. Consume fibrous food and food with high water content. Avoid salt, oily meals in sehri,” said Dr Ashar Abrar Kidwai.

He also advised people with high blood pressure and diabetes to eat normal fibre food with lots of water.

Clinical Psychologist Dr Gaurav said that people fasting during Ramzan should try to stay calm and stay away from negative thoughts.
