Ruchika molestation case: The rogue's gallery
Blame game | Verdict shocking: Lawyer | Friend blames 3 state govts

New Delhi: The Ruchika Girhotra case is becoming a virtual Pandora's box with not just politicians, but names of top bureaucrats tumbling out in connection with shielding molester director general of police SP Singh Rathore. The case continues to reveal sordid details of collusion on the part of politicians and top bureaucrats.

Here is a look at the rogue's gallery.

On September third, 1990, director general of police RR Singh submitted an inquiry report which found Rathore guilty of molestation. Then home secretary JK Duggal says he sent the report file for directions to then home minister, but that the file was never forwarded to the chief minister for necessary action.

The report was also not followed by the home secretary who took over from Duggal. The report also reveals that an ex-MLA, Jagjeet Singh Tikka, organised slogan-shouting men to march in front of Ruchika's house and harass her family.

Criminal cases of theft against Ruchika's brother Ashu, were filed when KP Singh was the superintendent of police, Ambala. Singh is now the Inspector General of police in Haryana. In none of the cases, a charge was framed.

Fourteen-year-old Ruchika, a budding tennis player, was molested in 1990 by Rathore, the then inspector general of police. She committed suicide three years later by consuming poison.

Compensation For Family

Ruchika's family is now seeking compensation from the Haryana government for the mental trauma they have put through in the last 19 years.

Her family lawyer, Pankaj Bharadwaj, says they will file a petition seeking compensation of Rs 1 crore.

The family is also likely to demand that SP Singh Rathore's retirement benefits be withdrawn.

Family members have already announced that they will move the Punjab and Haryana High Court asking for the case to be reopened.

Meanwhile, Ruchika's friend, Aradhna's father Anand Prakash and CPM leader Brinda Karat are scheduled to meet Haryana Chief Minister B S Hooda on Saturday. They want the state government to ask the CBI to appeal in favour of reopening the case and to form a committee to inquire into alleged political patronage extended to Rathore.
