Man stabbed to death in broad daylight

KOCHI: In a shocking incident, a person was stabbed to death in front of a textile shop at the High Court Junction here on Wednesday.The police, with the help of the public, later arrested the accused who fled the scene after the incident.The deceased was Gopi, 42, of Chetiyar House, Cherkakam, Varapuzha. The incident occurred at 4.15 pm when Gopi, who was looking to board a bus to Kaloor, got involved in a verbal duel with Johny, the accused, who was in an inebriated condition, the police said.On the spur of the moment, Johny took out a knife and stabbed Gopi, who died on the spot. According to the police, Johny, 59, of Maliyakal House, Combara, currently residing near Ponjikara Temple, has several cases pending against him.     Gopi is survived by wife Sunitha and daughter Subitha, a class VI student. The body of the victim has been kept at the General Hospital, Ernakulam, for post-mortem examination.
