Not just India, but cricket fans worldwide rejoiced witnessing talisman batter Virat Kohli get his hands on the T20 World Cup trophy with the Indian team, ending their 11-year-long drought to win another ICC trophy.
The worldwide influence of Virat Kohli is unmistakable, and it came to light yet again as the batter’s post after the T20 World Cup skyrocketed up the ranks to become the most-liked Instagram post by an Indian, overthrowing Bollywood power couple Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani’s picture from their marriage back in 2023.

“Couldn’t have dreamt of a better day than this. God is great and I bow my head in gratitude. We finally did it. Jai Hind,” read Kohli’s post.
India were involved in a thriller of a match against the mighty Proteas, both undefeated teams in the tournament, as the Virat Kohli-anchored batting order put up a historic total of 176 in their outing, the highest total set in an ICC T20 World Cup Final.
Kohli, who had been struggling in the tournament with the bat so far, led the way with a clinical and calculated 76 runs off 59 balls, helping his side steer clear of imminent danger and to steady the ship for the eventual mammoth total.
After that, it was time for India’s finest with the ball to shine. And shine they did, when the moment called for it, as the likes of Hardik Pandya and the ever-imminent Jasprit Bumrah delivered a masterclass in death bowling to seal a nail-biting 7-run win over the Proteas, to clinch the coveted T20 WC trophy.
But, with triumph came the news of the end of an era, as the likes of Rohit, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja all announced their retirement from the shorter format of cricket for India, to help usher in a newer younger age of Indian cricketers to take over the mantle and retain the glory they have achieved.
