Bengaluru: Bengaluru techie Masroor, who has been arrested for handling the Twitter account for ISIS militants, is highly motivated and radicalised and wants to spread the word of Jihad. However, Masroor did not actively recruit or arrange funds, investigators questioning the 24-year-old allegedly wayward techie told CNN-IBN.
The Central Crime Branch of Bengaluru Police has got custody of Masroor for the next five days. The Central and state investigating agencies are trying to determine if Masroor indeed had any direct links with ISIS and if other Indians were involved in spreading the ISIS's propaganda on Twitter.
Bengaluru DCP Crime Abhishek Goyal, who was part of the crack team that arrested Masroor, said, "Our task has just begun. We have to look at how he got in touch with all the people who are followers, his contacts, and also we would like to see if there were any more no of people involved."
Masroor, hailing from West Bengal, is learnt to be completely charged up on the ISIS ideology on social media. But sources indicate that it is highly unlikely that he was in touch with any ISIS member. The agencies rule out his role in recruiting people or arranging funds, the sources added.
Meanwhile, Goyal has started receiving threats. Within hours of Masroor's arrest, threats started pouring in the form of tweets saying that revenge will be taken.
But Goyal is unfazed. He said, "We are not overly worried about it but yes, we will take care of his safety and also the safety of the investigating team. But will not lose focus on the primary task which is to investigate Mehdi Biswas."
