Sidhi (MP): For a 70-year-old woman in Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district, there was no dignity even in death.
Unable to find an ambulance or a mortuary vehicle, her family members were forced to carry her body on a motorbike.
The aged woman collapsed on Monday while standing in queue to withdraw her pension from a bank in Amilia area of the district.
A similar incident last year in Odisha had led to widespread outrage when the relatives of a deceased man were forced to carry his body on bamboo poles when the mortuary vehicle service refused to help them.
Months later, again in Odisha, a tribal man was forced to walk 10 km with his wife’s body on his shoulder when he failed to get a vehicle to transport it back from a government hospital.
This year in February, a poor family in Tumakuru had to go through the ignominy of carrying the dead body of their daughter in a two-wheeler as no ambulance was available at the government hospital.
