Suryakumar Yadav underwent a successful sports hernia surgery in January having undergone two surgeries in a short span having been treated for an ankle injury earlier.

During the T20I series of the South Africa tour last month, the 33-year-old sustained an ankle injury. He twisted his ankle while fielding during the third T20I at the New Wanderers Stadium which required surgery.

The twin procedures are expected to keep him out of action for some time but according to various media reports, he will be back in time for the IPL 2024 where he will represent five-time champions Mumbai Indians.

Suryakumar will be a key player in India’s T20I squad for the World Cup later this year which will be co-hosted by West Indies and USA in June. He boasts of an excellent record in the format for India having scored 2141 runs in 57 innings at an average of 45.55 including four centuries and 17 half-centuries.

Along with his exemplary record in the format, he also can hit all parts of the ground while taking on the toughest bowlers as well which will be a big asset for the side for the T20 World Cup. His consistency is also unmatched as he already has scored four centuries and 17 fifties as well in the format.

The Men in Blue have yet to win the T20 World Cup since the inaugural edition under the leadership of a young MS Dhoni in 2007. Despite having a good side in the previous tournaments, they have not been able to get over the line and break the long-standing curse of not winning the ICC tournaments.
