Remember the classic snake game? In video games, players often get multiple chances to come back to life and try again. Unfortunately, real life doesn’t work that way—you can’t play with fire and expect to come back unscathed. However, one man from UP’s Fatehpur district has defied all odds. In just one and a half months, Vikas Dubey survived six snake bites.
Each time the 24-year-old was attacked by a snake, he was taken to the hospital, treated and allowed to go after making a full recovery, according to the report by India Today.
The first event happened on June 2, right after Dubey got out of bed at his residence. He was taken to a neighbouring hospital and given medical attention. Dubey suffered six snake bites between June 2 and July 6.
When Dubey was bitten by a snake for the fourth time, he lost consciousness as a result of an especially serious episode. His relatives hurried him back to the same medical facility since they were now quite frightened.
Despite being taken aback by how frequently Dubey was bitten, the medical team, headed by Dr Jawahar Lal, was able to stabilise him once more. Dr Lal told the Times of India, “This case is strange. After the third attack, I advised Vikas to leave the village entirely.”
However, as he relocated to his aunt’s home in Radhanagar, Dubey suffered his fifth bite. His parents then took him back home. He was bitten by a snake again on July 6, and things became worse.
Concerned about his health, his parents took the boy to the hospital, where he received treatment and healed. According to Dubey, he always had a premonition before getting bitten by a snake, and the bites usually happened on a Saturday or Sunday, India Today reports.
The World Health Organisation reports that there are around 5.4 million snakebite incidents worldwide each year, of which 1.8 to 2.7 million include snake envenomation, leading to an estimated 8,000–1,30,000 human fatalities as well as three times as many amputations and lifelong impairments.
