Tamil Nadu poll results may be delayed: EC
TN poll official said the declaration of results to the poll slated for May 13 might be delayed by a few hours.

Chennai: The declaration of results to the State Assembly elections slated for May 13 might be marginally delayed by a few hours, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Praveen Kumar indicated in Chennai on Sunday.

Speaking to Express after holding a consultative meet with recognised political parties on the preparations to the counting exercise, Kumar pointed out that in previous polls, the counting process continued even while the collation for the earlier round was on.

"Now, votes in the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) would be counted, collated and declared round-wise. The next round of EVMs would be taken up only after declaration of results to the previous round. This is being done as part of efforts to better transparency and it might cause a minor delay in declaration of final results," he said.

Results would be displayed on the electronic board in the counting centres at the end of every round. The counting process would be videographed and monitored by 55 additional observers taking the total tally of observers to 234. "In effect, there will be one observer for every constituency." As regards postal ballots, it would be taken up first, he added. Representatives of the DMK, AIADMK, PMK, Congress, CPI, CPM and the BJP participated in the meeting.
