Mussoorie Winter Line Carnival 2013 begins
The 4-day carnival aims to reflect Uttarakhand's life, culture and art and to give tourists an opportunity to re-explore Mussoorie.

Mussoorie Winter Line Carnival-2013, an initiative by the Government of Uttarakhand, the City Board Mussoorie and Ministry of Tourism and Culture to boost the state tourism, started on Friday.

The 4-day carnival aims to reflect Uttarakhand's life, culture and art and to give tourists an opportunity to re-explore Mussoorie, also famously known as the 'Queen of Hills'.

Companies like Garhwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Limited, Garhwal Post, SIDCUL, HelpAge India, Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd. and Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority have come together to sponsor the event.

Dehradun DM and event's organising committee Chairman Mr BVRC Purushottam says, "We want to showcase the serene beauty of Mussoorie with this carnival. Flash floods in June struck state's tourism industry badly and it will take time for us to revive it. The bookings at Mussoorie stooped down to zero per cent sometime back but, now we see the industry reviving with bookings rising to almost 50 per cent at this New Year. For the same reason, Uttarakhand Adventure Car Rally 2013 was organised some days back."

The carnival has at its disposal a range of events from plays, music, and dance performances to adventurous activities to captivate the audience.

Several programmes including Mussoorie walk, run for Mussoorie, photography competition, roller skating, treasure hunt among other activities will also be held at the event.

Famous personalities like Tom Alter, A Sivamani, Lucky Ali, Vikram Ghosh, Ravi Cheri, Stephen Devasi, folk singers Narendra Singh Negi, Pritam Bhartwan, singer Shivani Kashyap, Arijeet Singh. Kathak dancer Arushi Pokhriyal and others will perform. Tea with famous writer Ruskin Bond is a special attraction of the event.

Indian cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar is also expected to grace this event with his presence.

"Me and my friends are really excited about it as something like this is happening for the first time in Mussoorie," said Kartikey Joshi, a Dehradun resident. He also said that watching Lucky Ali perform live will be a treat to the eyes. "I am a big fan of his," he says excitedly.

What to expect at the event:

After the inauguration at 2 pm, day 1 of the carnival will bring to you a play written by Ghalib by veteran actor Tom Alter, performances by famous artists like Lucky Ali, Javed Ali and A Sivamani.

Day 2 starts at 10 am and will bring to you programmes like Mussoorie heritage walk circuit, mountain biking and cycling, run for Mussoorie, rock climbing, fashion show and performance by Kathak dancer Arushi Pokhriyal.
