New Delhi: With the Lok Sabha polls just months away, the regional parties are trying hard to come up with a non-Bharatiya Janata Party and non-Congress coalition as an alternative.
As a part of these efforts, BJD leader Jay panda, CPIM leader Sitaram Yechury, SP leader Ram Gopal Yadav, JDU leaders Sharad Yadav and KC Tyagi, CPI leaders D Raja and Gurudas Dasgupta met in Parliament House Committee room. JDS leader Deve Gowda and Thambidurai from AIADMK were also present in the meeting to work out a common floor strategy against the government.
"People have tremendous anger against Congress's anti-people policies. BJP has nothing to offer for people. In such a situation, left parties are striving to build an alternative. We have decided to enter state specific electoral alliances," CPI leader D Raja said.
Unwilling to spill any beans over its alliance, Trinamool Congress said that ther were in no mood to get into an alliance before the elections. "Wherever people have had a choice like they showed you in Delhi. There are alternative choices. As Mamata Bannerjee said, we are not going to be a part of any alliance," TMC MP Derek O'Brien said.
While rumours of a new coalition grow stronger, the BJP has said it does not need any allies. "I don't think we will be needing any alliance, we are aiming for over 272 seats and hope we will do well," BJP leader Siddharth Nath said.
