Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan refused to comment on the personal assault on him by NSS secretary G Sukumaran Nair on Tuesday. He told reporters after the Cabinet meeting on Wednesday that there were two types of leaders in the NSS.
"Genuine leaders belong to the first category. The others are subservient to corrupt leaders like Balakrishna Pillai. Sukumaran Nair belongs to the second category. I am not commenting on his remarks," Achuthanandan said.
Sukumaran Nair had said that the NSS shed its equi-distance policy this election to keep Achuthanandan, who is uncivilised, out of the Chief Minister’s office.
Sukumaran Nair's remarks invited sharp criticism from LDF leaders.
Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was the first to react. He asked Sukumaran Nair to introspect whether the language used by him to attack Achuthanandan was proper.
"The equi-distance policy of NSS proved to be a farce. We had known it earlier," Kodiyeri told reporters.
In a statement, CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan said the statement of the NSS secretary was unfortunate and not in accordance with the traditions of NSS.
"It is quite understandable if one criticises the government or the CM. But using such foul language is condemnable," said Chandrappan. He asked the NSS members to introspect whether the stand taken by the leadership was good.
