Shirdi: Anti-corruption activist Anna Hazare embarked on a new innings demanding a strong Lokayukta Bill in Maharashtra. For the next five weeks, Hazare will tour his home state. The insipid response to his December, 2011 agitation in Mumbai, the failure of the Anna factor in the Assembly polls, apparent cracks within Team Anna, even health worries haven't deterred Hazare.
Anna Hazare has embarked on a new innings in a state where his past agitations have met with a measure of success. For the next five weeks, Hazare will tour Maharashtra to press for a strong Lokayukta.
Hazare didn't miss the chance to take a dig at Rahul Gandhi's recent tour of drought affected Satara, terming it a photo op. But it appears that Hazare is on his own for now as the other members of his team remained conspicuous by their absence.
Earlier as Hazare met with leaders of all the state parties, his appreciation of MNS chief Raj Thackeray resulted in some dispute in his team. There is also reported unease over Hazare's plans to share the stage with Baba Ramdev in June.
While Hazare has denied efforts to form a viable political alternative, his campiagn is aimed at the 2014 elections. The 75-year-old will traverse close to 11,000 km over the next 30 days in a hope to galvanise the people as he did in August, 2011. The question is whether Hazare remains a force to reckon with.
