Saif Ali Khan Reveals Rahul Rawail Once Told Him His Career Was 'Over': 'Yash Chopra Called Me...'
Saif Ali Khan was set to make his acting debut in Bekhudi but he was fired. Saif opened up about the impact of his exit from the film had on his career.

Saif Ali Khan was set to make his acting debut in Bekhudi with Kajol. Directed by Rahul Rawail, Saif had not only said yes to the film but also shot a song for the movie. However, the actor was fired because Rahul found him unprofessional. In the recent episode of Koffee With Karan 8, Saif revealed that after getting fired from the film, Saif also lost out on other works. He added that Rahul was sadistic about the turn of events and even said that Saif’s career was over.

“Well, actually Rahul Rawail had signed Kamal Sadanah first and then replaced him with me, thinking perhaps this kind of casting is a little… And then, you know, I don’t want to blame him, but he did chuck me out of the movie because he found my attitude… He said, ‘You’re quite good. People will think it’s because you’re not good, but it’s because I want you to be more committed and more professional.’ I thought I was, but he didn’t think so,” he told Karan Johar.

“I rang him also. I said, ‘Please consider it because it is going to harm him (Saif) a lot.’ He said, ‘Nahi, Sharmila ji, I just feel…’ So I didn’t push it,” Sharmila added. “There were a couple of offers and they kind of dried. Rahul even told me, ‘This is it. Nobody is going to work with you.’ He was a bit sadistic, I must say because he kind of enjoyed that. He told me, ‘People will think this and it’s over for you’ And they did dry up,” Saif recalled.

However, Yash Chopra came to Saif’s rescue. “Yash Chopra ji called me up and he said, ‘I’ve heard you are very naughty. Are you? You better give me your word…’ He said, ‘You promise to be good?’ And that pretty much was it. I said, ‘Of course, I promise I will be.’ He said, ‘Okay, you’re in the movie.’ Overnight offers started,” he said.

Released in 1993, Parampara was directed by Yash Chopra and it starred a stellar cast. Apart from Saif, the film starred Sunil Dutt, Vinod Khanna, Aamir Khan, Neelam Kothari, Raveena Tandon, Ashwini Bhave, Ramya Krishna and Anupam Kher.
