Ranbir’s film is breaking box office records and how. The actor’s recent release, Animal, has completed a week at the theatres and the box office collection hint that the film is far from done with its run at the cinemas. As the movie enters for it’s second-week run, the Sandeep Reddy Vanga directorial has minted over Rs 23.5 crores at the ticket window on it’s second Friday.
According to a report in Sacknilk, Animal collected Rs 23.5 crores on Friday. This has resulted in the film’s Rs 361.08 crores collection.The film has comfortably surpassed Gadar 2’s opening week box office collection and stands below Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan and Pathaan. According to Bollywood Hungama, Jawan holds the top spot for the highest opening week collection with Rs 391.33 crores. Pathaan follows in the second spot with Rs 364.15 crores.
Meanwhile, Animal has already beaten the lifetime collections of Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. The film was released earlier this year. The Luv Ranjan movie collected Rs 149.05 crore. Ranbir’s biggest hit continues to be Sanju, which had collected a lifetime business of Rs 342.53 crore.
Animal revolves around a man and his toxic relationship with his father. Directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga, the film shows Vijay (played by Ranbir) as an anti-hero who would go to any lengths to protect his father, including gun down 200 people with machine gun. However, despite his efforts, he struggles to get a seal of approval from his emotionally unavailable father (played by Anil Kapoor). His unhealthy relationship with his father impacts his relationship with his wife (played by Rashmika Mandanna).
Although Animal is doing phenomenal business, it has been hit by controversy. The film has been accused of glorifying misogyny and toxic masculinity by several social media users.
