Liam Payne reportedly expressed that being in a boy band had left him “so f***** up” just moments before his tragic fall. Rebecca, a hotel guest at CasaSur Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina, reportedly claimed to have had one of the last conversations with the 31-year-old former One Direction singer. “‘I used to be in a boy band — that’s why I’m so f***** up,’” Rebecca said he told her during their chat in the hotel lobby, which lasted about 30 minutes. Working in IT in Washington, DC, Rebecca was reportedly in Argentina for a wedding. She observed some unsettling behaviour from Payne before his death.
Despite being scheduled to check out that morning, he reportedly remained in the lobby late into the afternoon, raising concerns among the hotel staff.
According to the New York Post, when Rebecca arrived, she noticed him near the elevator, seemingly eager for recognition. “There was something desperate about him,” she said. When the elevator arrived, he spontaneously declared, “Yes, I’m Liam!” and invited her and her friends to join him, saying, “I love a cuddle.” Rebecca chose to wait for the next elevator, while some other girls entered with him. In the elevator, he allegedly remarked, “Oh, you’re Americans, I live in West Palm Beach,” and added, “You guys are f****** crazy! You guys are f****** dangerous!”
A short time later, Rebecca witnessed Payne in a fit of frustration. He shouted, “F**k this s**t, mate!” while smashing his laptop on the floor, startling other guests. When she approached him to check if he was alright, he grunted in response and reiterated, “I used to be in a boy band. That’s why I’m so f–ked up.”
After this incident, a member of Payne’s entourage, reportedly named Roger, approached Rebecca to apologise, explaining, “I’m sorry, he just gets so high sometimes.” Shortly thereafter, hotel staff called the police.
Around 5 p.m., Rebecca reportedly saw Payne fall from a balcony. Initially, onlookers thought he might have just hurt himself, but it soon became clear that the situation was dire. “It was awful,” she recalled.
As per the New York Post, following the incident, Rebecca and her friends left the hotel, shaken by what they had witnessed. They found it difficult to stay with fans outside singing and crying. While officials initially stated that Payne had jumped, the autopsy later confirmed that he had fallen and investigations are ongoing to determine whether the incident was accidental or intentional.
