Matt Smith aka Daemon Targaryen stood out as one of the most powerful warriors.

George R.R. Martin is ready to deliver yet another chapter of his fantasy drama with the new season of House of the Dragon. After breaking records with Game of Thrones, which is still counted among the best TV shows, Martin returned soon with an amazing prequel and left GoT fans mesmerised. House of the Dragon season 1 received a positive reception, thus prompting makers to put their heads together to build up on the storyline. The show also brought to the fore some powerful characters with their inner conflicts, virtues and flaws.

One such was the character of Prince Daemon Targaryen (played by Matt Smith), the son of Prince Baelon and Alyssa Targaryen. Dubbed one of the most skilled warriors in the realm, Daemon’s future in the second season remains unresolved.

Matt Smith Was Unsure About HoTD

However, there was a time when Smith felt unsure about signing House of the Dragon. Speaking to Variety, the actor shared his concerns, stating that he was worried the show wouldn’t match up to the bars set by GoT. “My concern is that we’ve seen this story told. That’s the first thing I said,” he said.

Smith also explained how audiences have changed and so has the way TV is being consumed, thus justifying his reasons for being worried. “Audiences have changed. The way TV is consumed has changed. You can see a market saturate itself, envelop itself, and become obsolete,” the actor told the outlet.

Considering the brilliant storytelling and phenomenal acting in GoT, the concerns about living up to expectations sound quite genuine, especially to follow up on the legacy of sudden and bloody plot twists.
