Veteran actor Ashish Vidyarthi has, over the years, successfully carved a niche for himself in the Hindi film industry. Although predominantly appearing as a villain on screen, he has also played positive roles as well. Ashish Vidyarthi, who has worked in films like Sardar, Drohkaal, Baazi, Naajayaz, Arjun Pandit, Ziddi and Soldier remains in the headlines not only for his films but also for his personal life. Last year, the actor was all over the news when he separated from his ex wife of 21 years Rajoshi and married Rupali Barua. Ashish Vidyarthi had faced trolling for re-marrying at the age of 57. In May 2023, Ashish Vidyarthi married fashion entrepreneur Rupali Barua. The pictures of their wedding caused a significant buzz on social media.
Rupali Barua is seven years younger than the actor. Ashish Vidyarthi and Rupali Barua had a court marriage. The actor met her during one of his blogging assignments. During this time, the two started talking and gradually grew closer. In an interview, Ashish Vidyarthi mentioned that Rupali Barua was going through a very difficult period at that time, having lost her husband five years earlier. She was completely alone after her husband’s death and found solace in Ashish Vidyarthi.
In an interview last year, the veteran actor discussed the social media trolling he faced for getting married at the age of 57, expressing his surprise at the negativity. “I encountered terms like ‘buddha’ and ‘khusat’’ among other offensive comments. It’s noteworthy that these remarks reflect a broader societal attitude, where we judge those older than us and simultaneously create a fear of ageing for ourselves, because we all, hopefully, will grow old. We seem to be telling ourselves, ‘Don’t pursue things just because you’re old.’ But does that mean one should live unhappily? If someone seeks companionship, why shouldn’t they have it?” Ashish said.
