Florence Pugh has done it again, hitting back hard at the online trolls and negative body-shaming comments. Getting candid about the kind of comments about her body and personality online, the actress shared how these often bring her down. Pugh expressed that such comments are really hurtful, adding that she doesn’t want to become someone else. The Midsommar actress, who has been always upfront, confident, and blunt about her opinions, remains a constant advocate for authenticity.
“It’s so hard. It’s really painful to read people being nasty about my confidence or nasty about my weight. It never feels good. The one thing I always wanted to achieve was to never sell someone else something that isn’t the real me,” she told British Vogue.
Although the actress did not specify a particular event that prompted her to speak out, she is firm in her stance against body criticism, emphasising her desire to live life on her own terms. She clarified that her straightforwardness is not a deliberate choice but a natural reflection of her unwillingness to conform to others’ expectations.
“I’m not a model. It’s portraying a completely different version of myself that I don’t necessarily believe in. You have to believe that you deserve to be on those pages being beautiful. But now I know what I want to show. I know who I want to show. I know who I want to be, and I know what I look like. There’s no insecurities about who I am anymore,” she added.
Earlier she told Elle UK, “I speak the way I do about my body because I’m not trying to hide the cellulite on my thigh or the squidge.”
Last seen in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer and Dune: Part Two, Florence Pugh is now set to appear in John Crowley’s We Love in Time, which will hit theatres on October 11. She plays an aspiring chef, battling a terminal illness opposite Andrew Garfield. The actress spoke about the particular character, revealing she did not hesitate to shave her head to play the cancer patient. “It was important that you see her head and her shaving it. I have never found it a challenge to be acting in pain,” she said.
