In fact, Shami and Jasprit Bumah snared seven wickets between them to help India bowl England out for 129 in 34.5 overs. That came after India had posted a seemingly meagre 229-9, with Rohit Sharma contributing 87 from 101 deliveries.

Shami and Bumrah shared an initial five wickets in a fiery exhibition of pace and seam movement in a six-over spell in the first powerplay and skittle the English top-order.

Shami returned with 4-22 from seven overs and Bumrah had figures of 3-32 in 6.5 but player of the match honors went to opening batter Sharma, for his innings which helped India recover from a difficult start. India slipped to 40-3 in the 12th over before Sharma combined with KL Rahul (39) and then Suryakuma Yadav (49) to rebuild.

“It’s not something you see everyday. When you start your innings, you have to somehow try and get a couple of wickets to put the pressure back on the opposition. With the experience that our seamers have now, you can always rely and bank on them to get those crucial breakthroughs. That’s exactly what our seamers did. They exploited the conditions pretty well. There was swing, there was lateral a bit of lateral movement as well. They put the ball in the right areas to create that doubt in the batters’ mind,” India captain Rohit Sharma said after the match.

When asked if India has the best bowling attack, Rohit said: “I think so. We have a good balance, couple of good spinners, and the seamers have a lot of experience playing in these conditions. There’s a fair bit of options and experience as well.”

With the win, India extended their perfect run in the tournament as defending champion England continued their dreadful slump. England, after the loss, are languishing in last place with a solitary win from six games, while hosts India leads the 10-team standings with six wins from six games, two points ahead of South Africa and four clear of Australia and New Zealand.
