Kerala imposed a state-wide ban on the colas -which was eventually lifted- while many schools have already banned it from their canteens. But that was then. Now the entire hullabaloo has gathered dust and everyone is happy gulping down Coke and Pepsi worrying little about the apparently innocuous germs.

So if CSE garnered media coverage with their expose, can the colas be far behind?

They launched a heavy advertising campaign with their star endorsers exhorting people to relish their 'pesticide-free, safely made and bottled' drinks. One such Ad was done by my favourite actor Aamir Khan where he looks so genuine that he actually makes you believe that Coca-Cola is the next best thing to water.

One evening, I was lazing around surfing channels and I just happened to casually send a message on the number 8558 as Aamir nodded and smiled incessantly convincing me to drink coke. The ticker that ran with the Ad, flashed the number stating 'SMS Coca-cola on 8558, if you wish to register for a visit to the Coca-cola factory'... something like that.

I was happy with the prompt message I got back thanking me for registering myself, telling me I will be contacted shortly. Some three-weeks later, I was indeed contacted by a lady who claimed to be from one of the regional offices of Coca-cola and she asked for my details...'what's my name and what's my occupation'... and all. And I gladly furnished all the 'correct info', feeling good with the fact that at least the coke guys responded! Even called the CSE office to get some more info on their report thinking it would make for a good story for all to read.

The courteous lady hung up telling me that she will pass on my details to the head office and they will contact me in the next three-four days.

Well! It's been over a month. I have not got any invite and as I sit twiddling my thumbs I wonder if I did the right thing by telling them where I work?

Aamir for all your promises... all I got is a 'no call, no show!'
