THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Wednesday detected serious irregularities in the functioning of the checkposts in the district during simultaneous raids conducted on the checkposts.The raids were conducted at the three checkposts bordering Tamil Nadu at Amaravila, Karumkutti near Parassala and Poovar.According to VACB sources, the raids were conducted following a government directive. During the raids, it was found that overloaded vehicles from Tamil Nadu were being allowed to cross the border without any proper checking.It was found out that details of vehicles which entered the state through the checkposts were not recorded in the Vehicle Movement Register kept at the checkposts, while it was mandatory to do so.The VACB officials suspect the officials at the checkposts permitted the vehicles to enter the state by accepting bribes.The raids were led by VACB inspectors Sheen Tharayil at Amaravila, C S Haridas at Parassala and Ajith Kumar at Poovar and coordinated by VACB DeputySP Rajendran.
