BANGALORE: Former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam lectured as usual, but this time, his audience was teachers, not students. After inaugurating the “Galaxy Forum India 2011-Bangalore” organised by Bangalore Association for Science Education (BASE), in association with International Lunar Observatory Association (ILOA), where a majority of the audience was teachers, Kalam said that teachers should not depend on laboratories.“Dont weep for non-existing labs.Instead you should go for nature’s laboratories,” he suggested.Recalling an incident, Kalam narrated a story of a school teacher in a village in Andhra Pradesh, where there were more than 250 students.“Though the school was not well equipped, the teacher made students sit on the floor during full moon day, where she taught how the moon rotates around the sun.” He also recalled that during his school days teachers used to teach how the birds fly near the sea shore in Rameshwaram.“This is the best way to utilise nature,” he said.
