Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday condoled the death of a fisherman from the state who was shot dead in Bahrain-Qatar border and ordered a cash relief of Rs five lakh to his family.
T Karthikeyan of Ramanathapuram district, who was working in Bahrain on contract basis for the last four months, was shot dead allegedly by Qatar naval personnel while he was fishing in that nation's waters on Sunday.
Jayalalithaa expressed grief over his death and extended her sympathies with his family. In a statement Jayalalithaa said she had directed that the relief amount of Rs five lakh be paid from the Chief Minister's General Relief Fund.
