New Delhi: Sonam Kapoor and Shahid Kapur, whose film 'Mausam' hits the cinema theatres on September 16 this year, will appear on popular television quiz show Kaun Banega Crorepati, the actress tweeted on Monday.
The show on Sony Television that enters its fifth season this year has opened to record viewership in the top three metros of Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata.
Veteran actor and megastar Amitabh Bachchan returns as host on KBC 5 with his trademark understated style and opening credits as he tests contestants on their general knowledge and calms nerves with quips and anecdotes.
"Doing #kbc with @shahidkapoor today! What an auspicious day to start promotions together..," Sonam tweeted on Monday confirming her participation in the show, as part of a promotion campaign for her major release Mausam with Shahid.
"@SrBachchan is the coolest person ever! He is so so chic.. I'm officially majorly star struck!" she said.
The new version of KBC is aimed at India's hinterland and has gone air with the tagline "Koi insaan chota nahin hota." With a focus on small towns and giving economic opportunities to the underprivileged, KBC has broadened its platform for contestants from India’s interiors. The channel is also increasing its push into the smaller towns to boost its audience base.
The show was launched on the day of actor Shammi Kapoor's cremation and the fanfare was understandably muted. The format remains broadly the same. The show, produced by Big Synergy Media Ltd, was launched at a new time slot of 8:30 pm, Monday to Thursday, from August 15, 2011 on Sony Entertainment Television.
Bachchan's wardrobe this season has been designed by fashion designer Rohit Bal. The new format has an option of Manchaha Padav given to the contestant to choose a safe spot on the money tree, comprising 13 levels. All four life lines are available from the start and questions will be timed at 45 seconds until the he/she reaches the level they have chosen.
