Sniffer dogs at Chennai Open

If you feel safe at the Chennai Open, being held at the SDAT Tennis Stadium, Nungambakkam, you need to say thanks to a couple of sniffer dogs that have been employed by the Chennai Police. Meet Raddar, one of the dogs who patrols the stadium an hour or so before the real action begins. He’s quiet and obeys his master’s instructions diligently.“Before the match starts, we go all around the stadium with one of the dogs, to every seating row in the court, parking lot and to every nook and corner to make sure all is safe,” said a constable, who is a part of a group headed by Inspector Vajiravelu. “Raddar and Raja, the other dog, are experts at sniffing out bombs and explosives,” the constable added. The dogs are employed in two shifts during the day throughout the tournament.
