Sibal denies sending any team to La Martiniere
In another twist to the Rouvanjit suicide case, the HRD Minister says he authorised no one to visit the school.

Kolkata: Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal denies sending any team to the La Martiniere school here following the controversial suicide of Rouvanjit, a 13-year-old student of the school. Sibal said the state government should deal with its own affairs.

"I didn't direct any team to be sent to La Martiniere, Kolkata," Sibal said, adding "I have always insisted that the state governments look into the matter and check such instances from happening again."

But an HRD ministry team did visit the school and met school authorities, including the principal. It had also asked for a report on Rouvanjit's death, which the school is likely to submit over the weekend. Rouvanjit Rawla had committed suicide in February, days after the principal had caned him.

Supriyo Dhar, Secretary of La Martinneiere, said, "I have been told to make a report and submit it in 2-3 weeks. The HRD team has requested me to submit a brief report of what has happened and what transpired between the committee report. They have gone through the rules and regulations of the school. They have taken a copy of the service rule book."

"The HRD team wanted to know if the corporal punishment was just introduced or it was earlier," Dhar added.
