KOCHI: City shadow police arrested two groups of gamblers from different parts of the city. A group of gamblers was arrested from the boat yard near Kumbalam ferry. Edakochi natives Arun Kumar, 37, Ranganathan, 54, Krishna Kumar, 39, sons of Dhananjayan, Anamoottil House, Sreekumar, 46, son of Divakaran, Veliyil House, Padmajan, 47, son of Purushothaman, Maliyekkal House, Anuraj, 31, son of Asokan, Anamoottil House, and Sajeevan, 43, son of Madhavan, Veliparambu House were arrested. Rs 4,500 was seized from them.Another group of gamblers was arrested from Palluruthy Thangal Nagar Government Upper Primary School.The arrested include Thangal Nagar natives Ashraf Pozhinikarthil, 51, Cilil Thundathilparambu, 36, Hussain, Padinjaretundiparamil, 34, Christi Puppana, 45 and Naushad Valiyaveettil Nikarthuparambu, 39. Rs 3090, four mobile phones and a pack of cards were seized from them.The groups were under police vigilance after special branch assistant commissioner M N Ramesh received a tip-off. They were arrested by a police team consists of shadow SI Muhammed Nissar, Palluruthy SI Rajan, shadow senior police officer Eldose, shadow police officers Thomas, Biju, Kabeer, Sreekanth, Vishal and Subin, civil police officers Unnikrishnan, Varghese, Sabu, Vijayan and Shaji.
