SC reserves verdict on CVC's appointment
Court says it wants to address all the issues so that the matter is resolved.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on a petition which has challenged PJ Thomas' appointment as Central Vigilance Commissioner on the grounds that he was facing a chargesheet in a palm oil imports case and was not an outstanding civil servant of impeccable integrity.

An apex court bench of Chief Justice SH Kapadia, Justice KS Radhakrishnan and Justice Swatantar Kumar said it wants to address all the contentious issues so that the matter should not confront the court again in the future.

Senior counsel Prashant Bhushan, appearing for petitioner Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL), insisted that the selection committee for the CVC should take into account the views of the leader of opposition.

The court asked if the petitioner was in the favour of giving veto power to the leader of opposition.

It further gave all the parties a week's time to file their written submission.
