Lucknow: Top seed Saina Nehwal pulled out of the Syed Modi International Grand Prix badminton tournament on Wednesday due to hamstring injury and fever.
"Saina was suffering from slight fever and cold and today during the practice session she complained of slight problem in the muscles," Vijay Sinha, general secretary of the UP Badminton Academy, told PTI.
"Doctors have advised her at least three days' rest, so she will not be a part of this tournament," Sinha said.
Saina has been playing one tournament after the other and therefore was feeling fatigued, Sinha added.
Saina, ranked fourth in the world, was to play Pai Hsuao Ma of Chinese Taipei in her opening match on Wednesday, but her pulling out has upset the Indian challenge in the tournament.
