With India’s aviation industry experiencing rapid growth and heightened demand for skilled pilots, aspiring candidates are increasingly drawn to careers in aviation. While flight attendants and pilots are commonly associated with the profession, it’s noteworthy that the aviation industry offers a diverse array of job opportunities tailored to individual interests and skills. When aspiring to become a pilot, it’s crucial to comprehend the selection process and course fees.
Sanjeet Kumar, an expert from Sky Line Aviation Academy in Ranchi, advises aspiring pilots to excel in Physics, Chemistry and Maths during their school years, with a minimum of 55 per cent marks in the PCM stream.
To start the path to becoming a pilot, students can apply for the pilot entrance exam after completing their intermediate exams, as per Sanjeet Kumar. Obtaining a medical certificate from the Armed Forces Central Medical Establishment is imperative and the minimum age requirement for a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) is 18 years.
Eligibility criteria for enrolling in the Commercial Pilot course vary depending on whether it’s for a Student Pilot License, Commercial Pilot License, or Private Pilot License. Entrance exams for pilot courses include AME CAT, AFCAT and IGRUA, encompassing written, medical and interview components. Upon passing the exam candidates must secure admission to a flying club recognised by the Government of India. The course typically spans two years, with fees ranging from Rs 40-60 lakh per year.
Regarding physical requirements, Sanjeet Kumar stipulates that candidates must have a minimum height of 5 feet and an age range of 16 to 32 years. Additionally, candidates must not suffer from any severe medical conditions and should possess good eyesight and mental health.
In terms of salary, domestic airlines offer starting salaries of up to Rs 1.5 lakh for commercial pilots, while packages for international flights can reach into the crores.
As the aviation sector continues to flourish, aspiring pilots are encouraged to pursue their dreams with dedication and determination, navigating the rigorous selection process and course requirements to embark on a rewarding career in the skies.
