Mumbai: A Mumbai sessions court on Thursday rejected self-styled godwoman Radhe Maa anticipatory bail application after being named in a domestic violence and dowry harassment case.

Radhe Maa is required to record her statements with the police on Friday in the dowry harassment case.

Last week, a 32-year-old woman had filed a complaint of domestic violence and dowry harassment against her in-laws and Radhe Maa. She alleged that the 'godwoman' instigated her in-laws, who have been her followers for last several years.

Sukhwinder Kaur alias Radhe maa has to appear before the Mumbai Police in a dowry harassment case on Friday. She has maintained that she is pure and pious and has also found support from many quarters. "I'm pure and pious. I am innocent. I'm being troubled unnecessarily. I've not hurt anybody" said Radhe Maa.

Facing the heat over charges ranging from dowry harassment, obscenity, cheating and abetment to suicide, the self-styled godwoman continues to claim innocence despite the serious allegations levelled against her.

The Maharashtra Charity Commissioner has also initiated an inquiry into Radhe Maa's charitable trust after a complaint was filed to look into the legality of the trust. A complaint has also been filed with the Income Tax department seeking a probe on her source of income.

A new complaint was also filed at the suburban Borivali police station on Wednesday against her alleging her involvement in promoting superstition. Advocate Ashok Rajput who filed the complaint has demanded that Radhe Maa should be booked under the stringent Anti-Superstition Law not only for spreading superstition but also for practising "indecent behaviour".

She also faces allegation of provoking a family of four in Kutch in Gujarat to commit suicide. A lawyer has filed a PIL in court seeking an FIR against Radhe Maa for spreading obscenity, hurting religious sentiments and cheating people in the name of religion.

Quite like another self styled godman baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim with his psychedelic outfits, Radhe Maa too is known for her flowing red lehengas, flashy jewellery, loud makeup, trishul, mini skirts and sunglasses. Her unique style involves hugging and kissing her followers, dancing to loud music and being lifted by her devotees.

Those who were once drawn to her say she was opulent and expected her followers to shower her with money.

Despite the controversies surrounding her, Radhe Maa has several high-profile celebrity-devotees. The most ardent of them, Sanjeev Gupta, whose father owns Mumbai's popular eatery, MM Mithaiwala. Sanjeev Gupta brought her from Delhi where she was running prayer meeting from a devotee's home to Mumbai where she moved into the family's palatial home.

The house was renamed Radhe Maa Bhavan in her honour, and the fifth and sixth floors were given over completely for her use. This is where her agent brought prospective rich clients for her to meet.
