VIRUDHUNAGAR: Tension prevailed at government hospital here, after a government nursing college student committed suicide and the villagers, suspected foul play in her death, staged a road roko here on Sunday.Thamaraiselvi (26) of Thaapathi village, in Tirunelveli district, was studying nursing course in Virudhunagar Government Hospital Nursing Training Institute. It was said that she was talking to someone for long hours on Saturday night and a classmate noticed this and enquired Thamaraiselvi about the call. She allegedly informed the principal about the conversation and the principal chided the girl and asked her to summon her parents. Depressed by this, the girl committed suicide by hanging herself. Based on a complaint filed by hostel warden Kalavathi, police sent the body for postmortem without consulting the girl’s parents.Later, the parents were informed about the suicide and 200 persons from the village thronged the hospital. When the hospital management handed over the body and tried to get the signature from the parents, the villagers asked how the hospital could perform autopsy without the parents’ consent and staged a road roko.
