HYDERABAD: The Cyberabad police submitted to the High Court on Tuesday that they had never persuaded NTR Nagar Slumdwellers Society president MM Jahangir to speak to the home minister and her son in connection with a land dispute. Home department's counsel K Janakiram Reddy told a division bench comprising justice Nooty Ramamohana Rao and justice Ghulam Mohammed that there seven criminal cases were pending against the petitioner and he was facing trial in three of them. He said the petitioner seemed to terrorise the police by making them respondents and also by dragging the names of bigwigs without naming them as respondents. The bench was dealing with a plea by Jahangir alleging that the police had been targeting him and his family at the behest of home minister's son. The case was adjourned to next Tuesday.
Verdict Reserved in Pratyusha Murder: Justice Ravi Shankar completed hearing the arguments in the case of the murder of actress Pratyusha and reserved his orders.
The young actress had died in a seemingly suicide pact with accused Sidharth Reddy in 2002. They were rushed to the hospital. The actress died and the prime accused Sidharth was accused of abetting the suicide. The trial court convicted him and sentenced him to five years' imprisonment. In his appeal he contended that he could not be sentenced since he himself was a victim of the suicide attempt. Pratyusha's mother Sarojini Devi has been fighting the case to get justice to her daughter.Akbar Attack: Justice NRL Nageswara Rao granted bail to Abdullah bin Younus Asif al Yafai, accused number 3 in the case of attack on MIM leader Akbaruddin Owaisi. He was granted bail seven months after his arrested from a corporate hospital while undergoing treatment for a bullet injury in his chest and hand. Abdullah was seriously injured by Mohd Jani, gunman of Malakpet MLA Ahamed Balala, in the attack on April 30.
