New Delhi: Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram has said that his party's decision to support the Aam Aadmi Party in Delhi was unnecessary. According to Chidambaram the Congress had been divided over supporting the AAP.
He said that Congress had won eight seats and came third. "We were neither voted to form the government nor voted to be the principal opposition party. So we should have just kept quiet," he said in an interview to Indian Express.
The Finance Minister also made it clear that this was his personal view. He added that whether it was the right decision or otherwise, only time would tell.
AAP had won 28 seats in Delhi elections while BJP and its ally SAD had 32 MLAs. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party formed the government with the support of Congress, JDU (one seat) and an Independent MLA.
