PUDUCHERRY: Union Home Minister P Chidambaram and Union shipping Minister G K Vasan mourned the demise of Kerala governor M O H Farook Maricar by paying floral tributes at the portrait of the departed leader in his residence at Puducherry on Saturday.After offering condolences to his son M O H Shajahan and the bereaved family members, Chidambaram said that Farook had served the nation with much dignity and shown affection to all sections of people.Stating that he had known the former Puducherry chief minister for more than 30 years, he said that Farook remained a simple man all his life. At a very young age he had become the Speaker, chief minister and rose up to hold the position of chief minister three times, governor of Jharkahand and Kerala and Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia.Even the opposition leaders had lauded his capabilities and efficiency, the Home Minister said. Chidambaram said be it as Chief Minister of Puducherry, Indian ambassador to Saudi Arabia or as Governor of Jharkhand and Kerala, Farook had performed well for the welfare of the people. He had played a big role in Puducherry politics and his contributions had left an everlasting memory in the minds of the people.He regretted that he could not come before the funeral but had earlier met the ailing leader in hospital.Vasan, who met the family earlier also, referred to the unique qualities of Farook and described his death as a great loss.
