New Delhi: Rectification work on the Delhi Airport Metro Express corridor has begun and no deadline has been fixed for its completion, the Urban Development Ministry said on Friday nearly two months after the Line was closed down temporarily.
The Ministry took stock of the repair work at a meeting attended by officials from the Delhi Metro and Reliance Infra-led Delhi Airport Metro Express Private Limited (DAMEPL).
"The work has started on the Airport Line. We will get back to you on the progress," Urban Development Minister Kamal Nath said.
When asked about the deadline, Urban Development Secretary Sudhir Krishna said, "There is no deadline." At the meeting, Nath and Krishna discussed with the officials the progress of the repair work on the 23-km corridor that brings the IGI airport more closer to the city's business centre Connaught Place.
Sources said the September 20 deadline to hand over the Line to DAMEPL officials remains the same and that all efforts would be taken to make it operational at the earliest.
The Line was closed down on July 8 after the DAMEPL noticed cracks on the civil structure and brought them to the attention of the Delhi Metro.
The Urban Development Ministry had set a deadline of August 31 for resumption of operations on the Line, but it is being delayed.
DMRC and DAMEPL have been at loggerheads on the closing down of the corridor.
