Mumbai: 1 dead in fire in residential building
The cause of the fire is not yet known. The building which caught fire houses a zari workshop.

Mumbai: At least one person has died in a fire that broke out in a residential building near JJ Hospital in Nagpada in Mumbai. The fire was detected at around 8:45 PM on Thursday evening.

The dead person has been identified as 50-year-old Bashir Ahmed. There are no other casualties. Eight fire engines were sent to douse the fire and they managed to extinguish it at around 10 PM. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

According to the residents of the area the ground floor of the building has a shoe store, first floor is a mattress making unit, second floor is a small madrasa from where some students were rescued and the third floor had a zari unit.

The fire is believed to have started in a footwear making unit on the first floor of the building.

Ahmed is believed to have died on the third floor.
