BTS continues to make waves even during their mandatory military training in South Korea. Apart from their dedicated fanbase called as ARMYs, even prominent K-pop groups find inspiration in BTS’s music and fame. Among them is ENHYPEN, who recently remade one of their most loved hits from 2015, I Need U, for the Spotify Singles program. This initiative allows artists to record new versions of their own songs, covers of other artists or original tracks.
The septet brought a unique touch to the iconic track and turned the energetic song into acoustic which was arranged by HYBE founder and producer Bang Si Hyuk. Alongside the song, the group also plans to treat fans with a dance performance on their reimagined version of I Need U.
Talking about why they chose this particular song, the group leader, Jungwon told NME, “We decided to remake I Need U for three reasons. It was meaningful because it was the beginning of BTS’ Most Beautiful Moment in Life album series and because some of us performed this particular piece during I-LAND. We also all listened to this song all the time.”

ENHYPEN’s I Need U holds a special significance as it marks the first time their producer, Bang Si Hyuk, also BTS’ executive producer and HYBE chairman, has remade a song of the iconic group. Jake feels honoured to be part of this project as it is attached to artists they grew up admiring. While maintaining the original vibe, the newest rendition introduces a different, acoustic ambience with influences from afro beats. This adaptation of I Need U is softer compared to BTS’ original beats.
Sunghoon shares, “I think this is going to be an opportunity for our fans to see our new side, and since this is a song that everybody knows and a lot of people love, I really want people to focus on what kind of spin we put on it. With this particular cover, we will be able to showcase how much growth we have made.” While Jake adds, “I feel like this is something we really haven’t performed a lot, so I feel like it’s going to be something new for our fans to enjoy. The song itself is very good, and it’s very melodic. It’s very easy listening.”
Earlier, ENHYPEN has also covered several other songs by BTS, including Boy With Luv, I Like It, Permission To Dance, Black Swan, Dynamite, Dope and Fire. Apart from Jungwon, Sunghoon and Jake, the group also includes Heeseung, Jay, Sunoo and Ni-ki.
