New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday coined yet another acronym said that the way forward for agriculture was through 5Ts — talent, timely action, technology, trouble-free approach and training.

Speaking at the convocation ceremony of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology in Jammu, Modi said that the future of agriculture lay in artificial intelligence and blockchain technology.

“The changes that blockchain technology and artificial intelligence will bring about in agriculture will be revolutionary. As of now, farmers in a few parts of the country are already using this technology in their practices,” he said, adding that the government has done a lot of work to ensure that agriculture touched new heights.

He further added that the initiating artificial intelligence and blockchain technology would also help in reducing crop destruction.

“Efforts by our farmers, agriculture scientists and the policies of the government resulted in record harvest last year. Be it wheat, rice or pulses,” he said.

The Prime Minister further said that the state government had asked for Rs 500 crore for carrying forward development work in agriculture out of which Rs 150 crore has already been released. Elucidating that technology and entrepreneurship-driven agriculture was the way forward, Modi said that agricultural practices should be such that they not only cater to the current demand, but also support futuristic technology changes.

Earlier on Saturday, Modi inaugurated the 330-MW Kishanganga hydroelectric power project and laid foundation stone for the semi-ring road project in Srinagar. He also kicked off work on the Zojila Pass tunnel which will provide all weather access between Srinagar, Kargil and Leh.
