RAMANATHAPURAM: BJP state president Pon Radhakrishnan ferried in sea along with six other supporters and stayed in Indian waters for six hours without the knowledge of the Indian Navy and Coastal Security Group police on Sunday.The BJP called for a state-level sea picketing agitation in Rameswaram on Sunday to draw the government’s attention to bring traditional fishing rights for fishermen. Hence, the BJP cadre came to Rameswaram from different parts of the state. However, Pon Radhakrishnan and a few functionaries were missing from the beginning. Then, they appeared at the meet where some cadre carried him on their shoulders.An uneasy calm prevailed when the cadre rushed towards jetty along with Pon Radhakrishnan after pushing down police barricades. However, they were prevented by police personnel before they reached the jetty. It is said, Pon Radhakrishnan had gone to sea in a country boat along with six functionaries at 5 am and stayed there till 11 am. Then, he alighted from the boat near the fishing jetty at 11.45 am.Though, tight police security arrangements were made to prevent the entry of BJP leaders into sea at Rameswaram, the leaders got success in their agitation. The Indian Navy and Coastal Security Group police could not trace the country boat which was floating in sea for six hours. Even, Kaliraj Maheskumar, SP, was not aware of their venture.
