Lucknow: A day after the Lucknow University administration issued a unique advisory for its students and asked them not to come to campus on Valentine’s Day, University's gates were locked on February 14 morning to stop students from entering the campus.

An official notice was issued on Monday morning, which stated that the campus will remain closed on account of Maha Shivaratri and if any student is found roaming near the campus, then disciplinary action will be taken against them.

"It has been seen in the past years that some students, influenced by western culture celebrate Valentine's Day on February 14. We want to inform all students of the university that both the campuses of the university will remain closed on account of Maha Shivaratri and no extra classes, practicals cultural programme will be held," an advisory issued by LU Proctor Vinod Singh on February 10 said.

Expressing their displeasure over the university administration's order, students said that this is an example of a “choti soch (small thinking)”.

However, after facing criticisms, Vice Chancellor of the University, SP Singh, said some lines have been added in the notice due to over-excitement, but the purpose of the letter was not wrong.

After the notice made headlines, a refresh notice was issued on Tuesday evening by the officials which did not have any mention of Valentine’s Day and it stated that there will be a holiday on account of Maha Shivaratri.
