BANGALORE: Taking a walk towards comfortable living, hundreds of families received keys to their homes, of what would be India’s first private sector housing project, ‘Janaadhar Shubha’, on Attibele-Anekal road.Speaking at an event, Kumari  Shelja, Union Minister for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation, said: “I am shocked looking at the prices of the homes here, in comparison to today’s real estate price rise.”The first phase of Janaadhar Shubha is completed and comprises 1128 flats. This includes a total of 480 1BHK flats priced below Rs 5 lakh (excluding property registration and other government charges). The next phase comprises  648 flats (2BHK).The project will also include basic amenities like primary school that will begin from the next academic year, healthcare centre, shopping centre, play area, round the clock security and mini bus transportation to Attibele Junction and power back up facilities for the residents. The project is aimed at mid income and lower income groups. Customers of Janaadhar project are families with monthly income less than Rs 15,000; families with dual or single income from semi formal to informal economies like security guards, household help, autorickshaw drivers etc. Loans for the 1 BHK flats will be provided by Janalakshmi housing loans.Shelja commending this achievement, said,   this project stands as an example for the government to encourage such projects across the country, as nearly 25 million people in India face a shortage in urban housing.Talking on the various housing schemes, Shelja spoke on Rajiv Awas Yojana that aims at giving property rights to the people,  and Rs 4 crore has been sanctioned to Karnataka, under Rajiv Awas Yojana for mapping, survey, and working toward a slum free planning.Speaking at the event V P Baligar, Chairman and Managing Director of HUDCO said that 5 per cent subsidy on the interest on loan  would be given to people opting for affordable houses. He also requested the government’s intervention as many of the banks were not following this interest policy. Reportedly, HUDCO wanted to sanction Rs 750-crore to BDA to build affordable houses in Bangalore but the finance department objected.
